Dissolution of Being

Adriano Claro Monteiro and Rafaela Blanch Pires

Dissolution of being is an electronic music and video performance conceived  as an ode to the classic portrait genre, a reinterpretation of its expressive power through new media and algorithmic composition. In its visual dimension, the work uses images of human faces to feed an algorithm that yields convoluted outputs, digitally reshaped facial forms and expressions as well as textures of abstract patterns. The music is based on sound samples derived from human expressions, such as vocal utterances and music, which are the sources for electroacoustic processes to generate dynamic sound textures throughout the piece. The performance of Dissolution of the being is a structured improvisation in which both music and video are generated and modified live.
